Ed spent more than 20 years in large pharma (Pfizer, AstraZeneca) and biotech (Scriptgen/Anadys Pharmaceuticals), focussing on both therapeutic and preventive approaches to infections caused by viruses, bacteria and fungi. Over the years his responsibilities increased from bench scientist to research project lead and alliance director. He earned his PhD in Microbiology at the University of Amsterdam and continued his postdoctoral training at the University of Chicago and University of Aberdeen, UK.
