Robert Long, Executive Director Of Strategic Development, Uplifting Athletes

A suburban Philadelphia native, Rob is a former All-American punter at Syracuse University. In December of 2010, late in his senior season, Rob was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. His prognosis at the time was not good, and his surgery, recovery and treatment took 16 months. When Rob tells his rare disease story he reminds people “I’m the guy that probably shouldn’t be here, but I am.” Prior to his diagnosis, Rob was on a path to the NFL as a punter, but that opportunity was stifled by the brain cancer diagnosis. A graduate of Syracuse University, Rob pursued a Masters in New Media Management from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. He also received a B.S. from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management and received a certificate in Professional Fundraising from Villanova University. Rob played football all four years for the Orange and was voted by his teammates as a team captain his final two seasons. Rob learned about Uplifting Athletes when his teammates started the Uplifting Athletes Chapter at Syracuse in his honor after his diagnosis. Rob joined Uplifting Athletes full time in August of 2016 and currently he is the Director of Rare Disease Engagement for Uplifting Athletes
