Pariwat Kanithasen is an independent consultant and academic specialising in cross-border payments, fintech, and regional financial integration. He is currently an Adjunct Lecturer Thammasat University and the Asian Institute of Technology, where he brings practical and policy perspectives on payments innovation, digital finance, and international economics.
Prior to becoming an independent consultant, Pariwat spent more than two decades at the Bank of Thailand, most recently as Deputy Director of the Payments & Fintech Department. In this role, he led major initiatives to advance cross-border payment connectivity, including Thailand’s bilateral fast-payment linkages and the Bank for International Settlements’ multilateral Project Nexus.
Pariwat also served as Co-Chair of the ASEAN Working Committee on Payment and Settlement Systems and Vice Chair of the EMEAP Working Group on Payment and Market Infrastructures, contributing to regional cooperation on payment systems and financial connectivity. Earlier in his career at the Bank of Thailand, he held senior roles in the International Department, and previously served as Advisor to the Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C.
His work on the PromptPay–PayNow linkage between Thailand and Singapore contributed to the initiative receiving the Central Banking Awards' Initiative of the Year recognition in 2022. His expertise spans cross-border payments, fintech, payment systems, digital finance, and regional financial integration.
