Dr. Md Sumon Shahriar is the Team Leader and Advisor for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence at the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW). He oversees a team of ML and AI specialists, driving the development of strategic capabilities, leading and delivering various applied ML and AI projects. Dr. Sumon provides expert guidance, support, and best practices to advance the effective use of ML and AI across the AIHW’s business operations, ensuring innovation and excellence in leveraging data for impactful health and welfare insights. Dr. Sumon worked in public, research and development sectors such as Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care and CSIRO Data61. He holds PhD in information technology with specialisation in advanced data and analytics areas.
