Dennis Desmond | Adjunct Senior Industry Fellow and Former Senior Intelligence Officer

Dr Dennis Desmond is Chief Technology Officer of RAVINN Pty Ltd and a Senior Industry Fellow at the University of the Sunshine Coast, where he teaches and leads programs in cyber security, digital forensics, artificial intelligence, cryptography, FINTECH, and blockchain. With more than 25 years of leadership experience across cyber security, cyber intelligence, counterintelligence, and identity operations, he has worked at the intersection of national security, emerging technologies, and operational tradecraft throughout a distinguished career in government, defence, law enforcement, academia, and industry. Prior to his current roles, Dr Desmond served in senior operational and strategic positions with the United States Special Operations Command, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Department of Defense, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His work included support to special mission units, cyber-enabled identity protection, HUMINT support, counterterrorism, cyber counterintelligence, and investigations involving foreign-based cybercrime and espionage, including matters linked to Russian intelligence activity. Dr Desmond holds a PhD in Human Factors and Sociotechnical Systems from the University of the Sunshine Coast, where his doctoral research examined interventions in cryptocurrency money laundering. He is a published author and researcher whose work spans cyber threat intelligence, blockchain technologies, darknet markets, AI risk, surveillance, and the human dimensions of cyber security. His recent publications include research in AI and Ethics, the Journal of Cyber Policy, and public scholarship in The Conversation. Drawing on operational experience and academic research, Dr Desmond’s work focuses on cyber threat intelligence, adversarial analysis, AI-enabled cyber tradecraft, insider threat, digital identity, and the sociotechnical challenges shaping contemporary security environments.
