Dr. Bingda Li is the Co-Founder and CEO of Whelix, a Boston-based company building intelligent robotics for life-science research. He earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, researching stem-cell-derived therapies for organ transplantation in collaboration with Mayo Clinic. After spending more than five years working with cells, he founded Whelix to address the repetitive labor, inconsistency, and limited throughput of manual cell culture. Whelix combines purpose-built robotics with agentic AI to create scalable laboratory infrastructure and liberate scientists to focus on discovery.
Cell culture is foundational to life-science research and biomanufacturing, yet much of this work remains manual. Whelix combines purpose-built robotics with agentic AI to turn cell culture into intelligent, 24/7 laboratory infrastructure. This session introduces Associan™, integrating protocol creation, liquid handling, incubation, image analysis, and data collection in one platform. Drawing on Whelix’s real-world deployment experience, Bingda Li will share how intelligent automation can improve consistency, expand experimental capacity, and liberate scientists from repetitive labor, while building the physical foundation for AI-driven research and biomanufacturing.
