Trust is essential when scientific software helps shape what happens at the bench. Scientists need confidence that a system understands their objective, grounds its recommendations in evidence, makes its assumptions and calculations visible, and accounts for the constraints of their lab. Drawing on her experience bringing scientific platforms to market and working with Potato users, Alexis Jacobs will show how trust can be built across the path from scientific intent to executable experiment. Using Potato as an example, she will explore three requirements for trustworthy scientific software: understand the science, show the work, and respect the reality of the lab.
