Skye Mackenzie, PhD Candidate (Veterinary Science) & mixed practice veterinary nurse, University of Melbourne

Skye MacKenzie
I am a PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne within the Melbourne Veterinary School, specialising in endocrinopathic and metabolic disorders in equids (with a focus on equine laminitis). My research combines both laboratory and fieldwork to enhance the understanding and management of these conditions.
With (approx.) five years of experience as a veterinary nurse, I am passionate about evidence-based practice. Hence, I lecture Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing students at Melbourne Polytechnic/La Trobe and teach clinical skills to Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students at the University of Melbourne.

Additionally, I have extensive experience as an animal technician and research assistant, having worked with rodents at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity. Growing up with horses, I am dedicated to advancing equine health and welfare through research, education, and evidence-based care. Overall, my goal is to contribute to improving equine management and well-being, and promote education within the field.
