Alexandra Goldsworthy, Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing Lecturer and co-ordinator, Melbourne Polytechnic

Alex, successfully completed the Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing (BVN) degree in 2019 when it was first introduced. Since then, her professional journey extends to teaching, as she has been a faculty member at Melbourne Polytechnic since 2022 and has obtained a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education, Curriculum, and Learning. From a BVN student, Alex has evolved into a lecturer and coordinator, showcasing a remarkable career progression. Her journey from student to lecturer reflects her dedication to the BVN, making her a valuable mentor for those pursuing a career in veterinary nursing. As a vet nurse, she has accumulated three years of diverse experience in emergency, ICU, and surgical nursing. Her repertoire includes working with retired racehorses at Living Legends over the past nine years. Alex continues her association with Living Legends, where she co-ordinates the BVN’s equine and large animal electives.

Workplace Learning is a cornerstone of Veterinary and Veterinary Nursing education, offering students essential opportunities to develop clinical, communication, and professional skills while strengthening their identity within the profession. The clinical staff who mentor, supervise, and teach students in veterinary practices play a crucial role in shaping these learning experiences. Yet many dedicated clinicians receive little formal training or support for this important educational role.

This session will introduce practical, evidence‑informed strategies to help you grow your confidence and effectiveness as a clinical educator in practice. To enable you and your students go from surviving to thriving in the clinical learning environment.
