Mia Cobb, Research Fellow, Canine Welfare Science, University of Melbourne

Dr Mia Cobb leads canine welfare science research at the University of Melbourne's Animal Welfare Science Centre as the inaugural Chaser Innovation Research Fellow. With experience spanning RSPCA Victoria's shelter and nearly a decade as Training Kennels & Veterinary Clinic Manager at Guide Dogs Victoria, she brings practical industry knowledge to her research advancing working and companion dog welfare. Her work focuses on translating scientific evidence into practical improvements for animals' lives, bridging the gap between research and real-world impact. She is a sought-after speaker and science communicator, regularly contributing to public discussion of companion animal welfare issues through media and industry engagement. She lives in Melbourne with her family, including two dogs and four chickens, who ensure she maintains perspective on the practical application of animal welfare science.
