Alexander Goodall, Founder & CEO, Xela Energy

Alex Goodall is a seasoned renewables entrepreneur and the visionary Founder & CEO of Xela Energy (formerly Clean Energy Capital). With over 15 years in the clean energy sector, Alex has founded, scaled, and successfully exited two renewable businesses - both acquired by global leaders SunEdison and Statkraft. A proven innovator in the decentralised energy sector, Alex blends commercial acumen with deep industry expertise across utility-scale and distributed generation. He has launched several first-of-their-kind business models, including private-wire and off-balance-sheet frameworks that have helped unlock institutional capital for the sector, delivering critical energy infrastructure and helping lay the foundations for the UK’s green transition.
As CEO of Xela Energy, Alex secured significant institutional funding from True Green Capital to support the delivery of over 750MWp of direct wire renewable infrastructure - part of a national pipeline now exceeding 5GW.Energy has since become one of the UK’s fastest-growing enterprise Independent Power Producers, delivering fully funded, technology-agnostic energy systems to blue-chip and industrial power users.
With a land-led development model, a 20+ strong specialist team, and a focus on measurable ESG outcomes, Alex is helping redefine how the UK’s largest energy users decarbonise — while improving resilience and reducing reliance on the grid.
He has been recognised as a finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year and received the Green Start-Up of the Year award in 2023. “If our energy is unsustainable, so is our existence.”

Appearances:

Day 3 - 24th September @ 10:50

Keynote Panel: Behind the cloud: powering data centres with solar and storage

  • How should data centres access clean power? Exploring the balance between connecting to an increasingly renewable grid, procuring off-site renewable energy through Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs), and investing in dedicated energy infrastructure.
  • Can flexibility and storage unlock faster growth? Examining how battery storage, Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) and emerging regulatory reforms could reduce grid congestion, improve resilience and help meet rising electricity demand.
  • Will data centres become energy investors? Discussing the shift towards front-of-the-meter investments, on-site storage and generation, and the commercial and regulatory drivers behind these evolving energy strategies.
