Samresh Kumar is a passionate business builder and an astute private equity investor. Leveraging his diverse and deep global experience in multi-billion-dollar companies, investment funds and ultra high growth companies, he shapes/ helps shape the vision of an organization and then helps achieve the same successfully through ruthless execution. Continually appreciated for his good judgement, emotional intelligence and sharp decision-making skills, he can work effectively across stakeholders, irrespective of backgrounds, age and countries. He has structured/negotiated/closed >200 transactions, invested >USD 2.0 billion and has raised >USD 1.5 billion of capital.

Currently, as the Founder, Chairman and CEO of SkyX Solar, a Rooftop solar company which he founded within VinaCapital, he is actively building this out. He has negotiated and partnered with EDF Renewables as a strategic investor in SkyX, raising USD 100 mn of capital in 2021. Previously as the Managing Director, VinaCapital, a USD 2 billion diversified investments management group based in Vietnam, he led the private equity and platform development for its principal investments arm, and sits on the Board of a few exciting fast growing Vietnamese companies. As an active Board member and investor, he pro-actively leads/ influences the promoters and management of the investee companies on multiple transformational value-creation initiatives to achieve 10x growth in 5 years. Within VinaCapital, he also setup the energy development and investment platform.

Previously, as an Executive Vice-President at Masan Group in Vietnam, he transformed the company from being promoter driven to a professionally managed listed conglomerate (FMCG, Agri, Mining), growing from USD 600 mn to USD 3.5 bn in value in 4 years. Earlier, Samresh was one of the core private equity team members of SUN group (USD 2 bn Private Equity group in India, Russia and UK) and was instrumental in building a billion-dollar oil & gas company globally from inception. He also previously founded and managed an investment bank in India. He began his career as a management consultant with Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting).

Samresh has been awarded as the “Entrepreneur of the Year” for Solar sector in Vietnam in 2021, “Solar CEO of the year” for 2021-2022” as well as the “Top 10 Power Business Leaders - Asia CEO” and has won numerous awards for his company, including the “Solar Developer of the Year” for 2 consecutive years etc.

Samresh holds a MBA degree from IIM Calcutta and a B.Tech degree from IIT Delhi. He has lived and worked in Vietnam, Singapore, India, UK, USA, Russia and Middle-East. Samresh is a huge proponent of good corporate governance and is one of the few officially certified independent directors in Vietnam. He is an active speaker in conferences (having spoken in > 50 events in 2020-21 alone) and is passionate about building businesses, playing sports and helping the under-privileged.
