Bo Hesselbaek is Head of Regulatory and Technical, APAC for JERA Nex, a global renewable energy company driving the energy transition by developing, investing in and operating a global portfolio of onshore and offshore renewable energy assets. He specializes in offshore wind, battery energy storage, and energy markets, bringing a strong blend of technical and commercial expertise to the renewable energy sector.
Bo's 25+ year career has encompassed diverse roles, including engineering management, project management, and research and development. He was instrumental in the grid connection design for over 8 GW of renewable energy projects across the EU, US, and APAC. His deep understanding of energy systems and markets is complemented by his expertise in transmission systems, operational planning, market systems, and wind production/load forecasts. Bo has also actively contributed to the development of market rules and provided policy advice to government agencies.
His experience spans key players in the industry, including the Danish transmission operator Energinet, where he gained valuable insights into transmission planning and system operations and where he designed the ancillary service market. At Vestas R&D, he both headed up the grid connection team and the R&D department for hybrid power plants. While at Ørsted, he headed up the electrical system analysis, design and grid connection department for offshore wind. At Macquarie Asset Management, he led engineering teams and managed complex offshore wind projects. Bo spearheaded global market development for advanced Battery Energy Storage solutions at EkuEnergy. He recently led market development initiatives for advanced system services from BESS at FLUENCE, further solidifying his expertise in navigating the complexities of renewable energy markets.
