Moving beyond engagement: Using emerging digital tech with students

Teachers can draw upon a plethora of technology-based tools to engage students in impactful learning experiences. Research indicates that synthesising edtech’s capacity to flip classrooms with blends of mastery, inquiry, and collaboration can lead to powerful engagement in authentic learning experiences. Few teachers draw slavishly upon just one pedagogical approach. Nor should they! Effective teachers have professional agency. They are often eclectic in their adoption of teaching strategies, approaches, and tools. By blending the best elements of a variety of pedagogical approaches teachers can transcend the “performative”. This session will explore how emergent a range of digital tools might be combined with other existing methodologies to enrich learning in classrooms.Delegates can expect the following outcomes from this presentation:

  • Insight into developing blended pedagogical approaches for the teaching of History which draws upon digital technologies to support the growth of citizenship skills in students.
  • Insight into current research related to pedagogy for the using digital technology within History classrooms.
  • Hands on experience in the use of emerging digital tech tools that are appropriate to pedagogical approach for teaching History (and HASS).
  • Hands on experience in the use of emerging digital tech tools which enhance students’ skills in critical thinking with online sources.
