Amir Anees works at the intersection of artificial intelligence and data privacy, with a focus on enabling the use of AI in sensitive domains such as healthcare. He is affiliated with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research, where he works on developing and deploying privacy-preserving machine learning approaches, including federated learning. His work involves close collaboration with public hospitals, implementing federated learning systems directly within clinical environments to enable model training without the need to centralise patient data. This brings together technical, governance and infrastructure considerations critical to real-world adoption. Alongside his research, Amir also leads AI Privacy Consultancy, where he works with organisations to design and implement AI solutions that align with privacy, regulatory and data sovereignty requirements.
