Kaj Mook was appointed customer services director in September 2012. He moved to the UK a year before to undertake a secondment at Merseyrail from Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Dutch Railways), as head of customer service transition.   He spent ten years at Nederlandse Spoorwegen, starting in 2001. Most recently, he was the director of NS Fiets and NS OV-fiets, responsible for all Nederlandse Spoorwegen cycle facilities. While he held this position, both the number of people using the OV-fiets cycle hire facilities and the number of rentals increased threefold. Before that, he worked on several large development projects: Amsterdam South station, the largest station project in the Netherlands, as well as on several new railway stations. He also worked as an internal consultant within station development.  Kaj spent the first two years as a spatial planner    Kaj’s first job was with Companen, a housing consultancy where he worked on housing policy for several cities and the Ministry of Spatial Planning, a government department.    He was one of the founders and the first chairman of WisselWerking, the young professional network of Nederlandse Spoorwegen and  the first chairman of de Jonge Veranderaars, the young professional network of the national public transport lobby group. He currently is a member of the Advisory Board of Interface for Cycling Expertise, an NGO with a remit to reduce poverty through cycling-inclusive planning.   Kaj graduated with a master’s degree in spatial planning from the Radboud University in Nijmegen in 2001.
