Dr. Allen Lai is the Director of the Institute of Health Economics & Management Asia-Pacific (IHEM Asia-Pacific), ESSEC Business School, where he heads IHEM Asia-Pacific’s efforts in fostering knowledge transfers between academic, policy makers and business communities on health economics issues in the Asia-Pacific region as well as between Europe and Asia.   Dr. Lai brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise in health management and policies. He is a medical doctor and surgeon by training and has been working at National Taiwan University Hospital and Taipei City Hospital between 1999 and 2007. On top of his clinical practice, he was also a group leader in clinical process management and quality assurance. Dr. Lai has advised several renowned organizations such as Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia, Canadian International Development Agency, Ateneo School of Government (Philippines), Health Promotion Bureau (Taiwan), and Taiwan Red Cross.   Dr. Lai’s research areas are in health organization behaviour, health policy and analysis, and collaborative management, and public health crisis. He obtained his MSc in Preventive Medicine from National Taiwan University, MPA and PhD from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore and has published more than 40 peer review journal articles, op-eds, and book chapters.
