Kourosh Malek, Head of Department AI and Data Analytics, Vimi Labs

Dr. Kourosh Malek is currently heading the research department “Artificial Materials Intelligence (AMI)” as part of the institute for energy and climate research (IEK-13) at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH. He is also the founder and managing director at ViMi Labs, a software solution that designs practical AI agents & virtual cloud labs for clean energy sector. He brings in years of experience in technology development and commercialization within clean energy sector particularly for software-hardware integration, AI & big data analytics, and Internet of Things (IoT).

Ecosystem building: a case study for hydrogen production and clean energy materials development

To achieve net-zero goals, the German Canadian Materials Acceleration Centre (GCMAC), launched in 2021, has focused on bringing together research communities in Germany and Canada to accelerate the discovery, design, device integration, and demonstration of materials for sustainable energy technologies. In addition to its own research and development portfolio around sustainable materials for H2 production and CO2 conversion to clean fuels (i.e. H2), GCMAC has been highly instrumental in building international ecosystems for knowledge mobilization and utilization.

 This talk will present a case study in addressing technology specific challenges in the clean energy technology space for scale-up across the research and innovation continuum via knowledge mobilization, as well as connecting in with the broader accelerated materials discovery ecosystem

Self-driving and cloud-connected labs for accelerating integration of energy materials

This presentation introduces a decentralised and adaptable future lab concept that speeds-up the development, integration, and innovation path for clean energy materials and technologies. By orchestrating from a single platform for selected hydrogen technologies, the platform is expected to find wide adoption in the clean technology field in the longer run, including energy harvesting, conversion, and storage; clean water technologies; and the synthesis of value-added chemicals and fuels.
