Holly joined AstraZeneca 3 years ago and is based within the Separation Sciences team. Her role focusses on implementing hardware and software automation to enable the delivery of streamlined and sustainable analytical and purification workflows to support Early Oncology chemistry.

Prior to AstraZeneca, Holly gained her MChem degree from the University of York before working as an analytical chemist at GSK, Novartis and the MHRA, with roles based in drug discovery, process chemistry and final product testing. Holly has also worked at Owlstone Medical where she developed separation and detection methods for identifying volatile biomarkers in breath samples and the Francis Crick Institute where she was involved in the LC-MS investigation of the metabolomics and drug resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Integrated software & hardware to enable streamlined analytical and purification workflows

AstraZeneca’s analytical teams analyse and purify thousands of samples every year, using diverse and complex workflows. Our drive to identify and remove process bottlenecks and improve efficiency encompasses both hardware investment and software development. This presentation describes three key elements which combine to deliver significant increases in laboratory capacity; automated data processing, intelligent sample tracking and state-of-the art sample handling hardware. It also shows how we have built end-to-end data flows that integrate all three of these elements and that sample throughput has been increased significantly, allowing more compounds to pass through the DMTA cycle than ever before.
