Anthony Okereke, Leader, Royal Borough of Greenwich

Councillor Anthony Okereke is Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Since becoming Leader in May 2022, he has championed innovation, inclusive growth and digital transformation across the borough, with a focus on ensuring emerging technologies deliver meaningful benefits for residents. He is a strong advocate for the role of local government in shaping the adoption of emerging technologies, promoting approaches that are ethical, transparent and focused on delivering public value.

Anthony's portfolio includes oversight of DG Cities, the Council's innovation company, and Digital Greenwich Connect, supporting initiatives that harness data, connectivity and AI to improve public services, drive economic opportunity and tackle inequality. He is a vocal supporter of strong collaboration between the public and private sectors to ensure innovation is deployed responsibly and in ways that build trust and deliver lasting benefits for communities.

Having previously spoken at Connected Britain on the UK's connectivity needs and the role of local authorities in delivering digital infrastructure, Anthony brings a practical local government perspective to the opportunities and challenges presented by AI. He is particularly interested in how councils can help ensure AI is adopted responsibly, strengthening public services while maintaining public confidence and accountability.
