Mrs Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive of the
Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on December 13, 2023, and assumed office on
December 18, 2023.
On September 18, 2025, Mrs Kuku was elected Vice President of Airports Council International
Africa (ACI Africa). This appointment marked her elevation from Regional Advisor for Africa to a
permanent member of the ACI World Governing Board. The ratification occurred during the 34th ACI
Africa General Assembly in Lusaka, Zambia. ACI Africa represents 56 member states and plays a
critical role in advancing aviation interests across the continent.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Illinois in 2000, followed by an
MBA in International Finance and Strategic Management from DePaul University’s Kellstadt
Graduate School of Business in 2004. These academic credentials established the foundation for a
career defined by strategic acumen and innovation.
Before she was appointed the first female Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, she
held several senior leadership roles. These include Vice President and Head of Visa Consulting and
Analytics for Sub-Saharan Africa at Visa, and Partner in Business Consulting at Ernst & Young (EY),
where she demonstrated expertise in navigating and transforming complex business environments.
She also served as General Manager, Business Development and Investment, at the Nigerian
Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), underscoring her capacity to drive organisational success.
Her contributions to the aviation sector are further reflected in her advisory role in Strategy and
Infrastructure Development at the Federal Ministry of Aviation. Her tenure as General Manager,
Business Development, at NAMA reaffirmed her sustained commitment to the industry.
Mrs Kuku has collaborated with prominent development and multilateral institutions, including the
World Bank, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Economic Community of West African
States (ECOWAS), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the United States Agency for
International Development (USAID). These partnerships highlight her ability to operate at the
intersection of international development and strategic economic planning.
At FAAN, she leads transformative initiatives that have redefined operational standards in the
aviation industry. Under her leadership, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and the
Port Harcourt International Airport received recognition from Airports Council International Africa for
Excellence in Airport Emergency Management and Resilience.
Under her leadership, FAAN is currently overseeing the comprehensive rehabilitation and expansion
of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos—the single largest investment in Nigeria’s
aviation sector to date. The airport, which processed 4.5m passengers in 2025, is projected to
handle over 17 million passengers annually.
