Marcelo Mota, CIO and ORAT PMO, AIAAN Luanda Airport

Marcelo Mota holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Warwick, England. With 30+ years of experience in the Energy, IT, Airports, Government, and Consulting industries, Marcelo is currently the Chief Information & Innovation Officer (CIO) and PMO of the Operational Readiness & Airport Transfer (ORAT) Program of AIAAN Temporary Operator (ATO) of the new Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (NBJ) in Luanda, Angola. Prior to this, he spent 12 years as Commercial Director &CCO and Director of Operations & COO of Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos, the concessionaire that develops and operates Viracopos International Airport in São Paulo, Brazil. He was also an Associate Vice-President of the TD Bank Financial Group (2nd largest bank in Canada, 6th largest in North America). Before joining the TD Bank, he worked at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) for nine years and held the position of Director, Information Technology & Telecommunications Programs. Marcelo is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) since 2000 and has been actively involved with the institute for 20+ years. He is also a former Director of the Project Management Institute (PMI)’s Southern Ontario Chapter, in Canada. In Brazil, he was also Director of Business Development and Director of Operations & Technical Support at the Bahia State’s data processing company PRODEB and held several management positions during the 17 years working at the power utility company COELBA. In 2017, Marcelo received the title of Honorary Member of the Brazilian Air Force, due to his “rich collaboration” to the Brazilian civil aviation sector. In 2022, he was awarded the Brazilian Army Nacional Medal for “relevant services rendered” to that military institution. Author of a number of articles and technical papers published by newspapers and local, national, and international magazines and journals. Lecturer at Brazilian and international conferences in the areas of Project & Program Management, Continuing Education, Return on Investment (ROI) Calculations, Airport Management, Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) and Customer Experience (CX).
