Laura Bennington, Veterinary Nurse Specialist in Emergency and Critical Care VTS(ECC), Veterinary Emergency Specialty Training

Laura qualified from Napier University in Edinburgh with an honours degree in veterinary nursing in 2010 and subsequently became an registered vet nurse with the RCVS in the UK. In 2015 she moved to Australia and started her journey into emergency and critical care, working in a variety of clinical and leadership roles within ECC departments including becoming the head nurse of a busy ECC department . In 2022 she founded 'Veterinary Emergency Specialty Training' aka VEST so that she could share her experience and knowledge to help others learn and develop in the area of ECC. Laura has gained extra qualifications since leaving university, including completing her CertVNECC in 2019 and gaining her VTS (ECC) accreditation through the AVECCTN in 2022, making Laura an international veterinary nurse specialist in emergency and critical care. Laura hopes that by sharing her knowledge and skills she can help people to feel comfortable dealing with emergencies and critical patients and achieving better outcomes for future patients and staff. As well as enjoying the fast paced environment of ECC, Laura has also worked in specialist surgical, internal medicine and neurology departments in referral practice. Laura also lectures for a bachelor of veterinary nursing degree at university level and her latest adventures in veterinary medicine have led her to a leadership position with Melbourne's only human grade veterinary ambulance service! Laura is a fierce advocate for the veterinary nursing profession, is a member of a higher education course committee and in her spare time advocates for veterinary nursing professionalisation.
