Alena Gadoury, Co-founder & Director, VetHerd

Alena has a diverse multisectoral career which includes human and animal medicine, business, mentoring, training, and research. She obtained her Bachelor of Nursing in 2006 and worked as a Registered Nurse in Adult Mental Health and Paediatrics. In 2013, she achieved a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (First Class Hons) from the University of Sydney and worked in small, mixed and emergency settings in both Canada and Australia. In 2019, she joined the Vets, Stay, Go, Diversify team and co-founded the “Down Under” branch. Alena then worked as the National Sales Specialist for Provet VI before becoming a Clinical Research Project Manager for QUT and Queensland Health. Missing working as a veterinarian Alena returned to practice where she now provides end of life care for Sunset vets. Having lived experiences with mental health challenges and suicide has led her to focus on suicide prevention and intervention. Alena co-founded VetHerd, a suicide prevention program for the veterinary community, is an applied suicide intervention skills trainer, and is undertaking a PhD at Griffith University - School of Applied Psychology, researching suicide in Australian veterinarians.
