Tarek Sheikh, Deputy Director - Tunnels, Buildings & MEI, West Gate Tunnel Project Victoria

Tarek is an accomplished infrastructure delivery leader who has worked on high value high risk projects across transport portfolio including roads, bridges, rail, stations, stabling yard, tunnels and buildings. In his current role Tarek is responsible for managing the design, construction, commissioning and close-out of the West Gate twin tunnels, associated portal and building infrastructures and MEI, ITS systems. Prior to this, Tarek was in Level Crossing Removal Program where he played key roles in two program alliances delivering various rail projects. He’s got a few ‘first’ and ‘fastest’ records in his credentials there. Tarek also worked on Geelong Ring Road (greenfield freeway) and Princes Highway West Highway duplication (brownfield) during his tenure in the  then Road Authority. Tarek has earned a reputation for learning by challenging, disrupting the status quo but investing in establishing relationship in the interest of removing barriers to ‘best for project’, facilitating outcomes and progressing resolution to critical issues. Working across various contract vehicles (D&C, Alliance and PPP) across multiple and diversified project fronts and experiencing whole of Infrastructure Project Lifecycle from inception through to business case, optioneering, scoping and funding, tendering, design and construction, commissioning and operations and maintenance, has adorned Tarek’s professional career. Tarek is an Oxford alumnus - completed the Australian Major Projects Leadership Academy (AMPLA) program from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.  Tarek’s likes to describe his role in the team as an inquisitive learner, critical thinker and innovative enabler.
