Emma Ings | Principal Archaeology and Built Heritage Consultant
Headland Archaeology

Emma Ings, Principal Archaeology and Built Heritage Consultant, Headland Archaeology

I am a Principle Consultant who has worked extensively on both Development Consent Order (DCO) and Town & Country Planning Act (TCPA) non-Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) development projects in England, Wales and Scotland. I work predominantly within the renewable energy, transport, utility and residential sectors, with a particular focus on solar farms. I provide robust archaeological and heritage advice to clients and project stakeholders for the management and enhancement of archaeology and historic places. My background is in field archaeology, in which I spent the first 5 years of my career. For the past 9 years, I have used this experience to provide clients with sound archaeological advice and mitigation strategies suitable for a wide range of development types and categories of archaeological site. This work has involved all types and periods of built heritage and archaeological remains.  I have substantial experience of working as part of multidisciplinary teams to deliver heritage documentation and archaeological fieldwork required as part of EIA and non-EIA projects (including scoping reports, preliminary environmental information report cultural heritage chapters, desk based assessments, and Environmental Statement cultural heritage chapters). I regularly manage pre- and post-determination archaeological investigations such as geophysical survey and trial trenching. I have represented clients as an expert witness for heritage at DCO examination hearings. This experience has allowed me to hone my exceptional skills in liaison and consultation with national agency and local government archaeological advisors, other heritage organisations, the general public and clients.
