Deb Belyea is a proud Torres Strait Islander woman from the Samuawgadhalgal (Cassowary Clan), with her roots extending from the Top Western Islands of Saibai and Dauan, to the Cape York Community of Bamaga. Deb has been a classroom teacher for over 20 years, teaching in regional and remote Indigenous communities, as well as online teaching for Master of Education students in universities in New South Wales. During this time her roles have included Head of Department, Head of Curriculum and classroom teacher.  Deb is also an acclaimed artist, and was the 2024 National NAIDOC Poster winner with her peice, Urapun Muy (One Fire). She has also been commissioned to complete artworks for NITV/SBS on Demand, the Torres Strait Regional Authority and is the designer of the NRL Redcliffe Dolphin's Indigenous Round jersey.  Deb is now the director of her own consultancy, Zeyawgub, and specialises in providing professional learning for educators to embed First Nations’ perspectives in the Classroom.
