The SEAMEO Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics (SEAMEO RECSAM) is a regional centre established in May 1967 to promote excellence in science and mathematics education across Southeast Asia.
Based in Penang, Malaysia, SEAMEO RECSAM is a leading regional centre under the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO). Its core mission is to foster excellence and innovation in science and mathematics education across its member countries. Since its inception, SEAMEO RECSAM has served as a catalyst for educational transformation, focusing on the professional development of educators and the enhancement of teaching and learning practices at the primary and secondary levels among its SEAMEO member countries (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam).
Now progressing through its 11th Five-Year Development Plan (July 2020–June 2025), SEAMEO RECSAM has successfully trained and empowered more than ten thousand key educators through its flagship training programmes such as the Regular Courses, In-country Courses and Seminar-Workshops. As the Centre advances its mission, it not only leverages its extensive experience and resources but also actively explores and adopts evolving pedagogical approaches to meet the demands of a rapidly changing educational landscape.
The Centre remains committed to advancing science and mathematics education across the SEAMEO region through impactful research, publications, strategic collaborations, and knowledge-sharing by convening international conferences, congress and symposia to foster regional and international dialogue.
In keeping with current global trends and developments, SEAMEO RECSAM integrates contemporary values, emerging technologies and future-oriented pedagogies into its science, mathematics, and technology education programmes.
