Tsuyoshi Tabuchi is a seasoned railway professional and a certified Professional Engineer, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. He currently serves as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), as well as Director and Deputy General Manager of the Railway Division and General Manager of the Innovation Department at West Japan Railway Company (JR West). Mr. Tabuchi began his career with JR West in 1995, gaining hands-on experience in track maintenance at railway maintenance centers. He further strengthened his technical expertise through research on track structures in Japan and internationally at the Railway Technical Research Institute. Throughout his career, he has held key roles at JR West headquarters, contributing to the development of maintenance technical standards and supporting overseas railway projects. He also played a pivotal role in establishing the Technology Railway System Planning Department, the predecessor to the Innovation Headquarters, where he promoted cross-functional technological solutions and provided technical assistance internationally, including in Brazil. In the Kansai Regional Headquarters, Mr. Tabuchi was actively involved in disaster response and recovery efforts, notably contributing to the restoration of the Kansai Airport Bridge following severe natural disasters. In his current role, he leads innovation initiatives aimed at transforming railway operations and maintenance through the adoption of Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM), AI, and data-driven solutions. He is also driving efforts toward green transformation, creating new value by leveraging railway assets and advancing sustainable mobility.
