Nikki Robertson is a leading clinical academic neonatologist in the UK and internationally; she has been focused on brain protection in the term newborn baby. Nikki is Professor of Perinatal Neuroscience and Consultant in Neonatology at University College London (UCL) and has over 20 years experience of preclinical to clinical translation of novel neuroportective therapies for perinatal brain injury. Her work has focused particularly on melatonin and mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) therapies. Currently Nikki is Chief Invetigator of the phase 1 ACUMEN trial of a novel formulation of melatonin as a possible therapy for hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) (https://www.acumen-trial.co.uk). Nikki and her team have studied MSC therapy preclinically and are working on the next steps of early phase clinical trials with MSC in HIE.    

Nikki is dedicated to training the next generation of researchers, supervising over 25 PhD students and teaching neonatologists aroudn the world. Nikki is a mentor to many young researchers and is invited as a plenary speaker internationally regularly. At Advanced Therapies UK 2027, Prof Robertson will be sharing her insights on MSC therapy for neonatal brain injury. Her innovative approach and dedication to improving outcomes for vulnerable newborns is inspirational.
