Michael Aigner, Head of Manufacturing / QP, University Hospital Erlangen

Michael Aigner is a biologist, who studied Biology at the University Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany and holds a PhD in medical Microbiology from the University Hospital Regensburg. In 2008, he moved to the University hospital in Erlangen, Germany and focused on adoptive T cell therapy. After first clinical trials with antigen-specific T cells in malignant melanoma and multi-virus specific T cells for prevention and treatment of virus reactivation after allogenic SCT, he established one of the first academic GMP laboratories for manufacturing of CAR T cells in Germany. He and his teams have produced CAR T and TRUCK cell products for over 100 patients in a wide variety of indications, including the world first CAR T products for patients with systemic Lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, autoimmune myositis and ulcerative colitis. Dr. Aigner is a member of the medical faculty in Erlangen, the German national Specialized Ethics Committee for Special Procedures, Germany National Strategy for GCTs, EBMT, ISCT and is coordinator of the GMP group with the Bavarian Cancer Research Centre (BZKF).
