Dr. Jan Uwe Claas von Jachmann is Chief Executive Officer of PROVIREX GmbH, a private biotechnology company based in Hamburg, Germany. With more than 25 years of experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, he has expertise spanning preclinical research, international marketing and general management. His international experience includes ten years in managing director roles in Europe and seven years in international commercial development, including a position as Senior Vice President of Marketing. Dr. Claas von Jachmann holds a PhD in Microbiology and Biochemistry. PROVIREX develops advanced therapy medicinal products for life threatening viral infections, with a focus on curative treatment approaches for HIV. PROVIREX uses the highly specific designer recombinase Brec1 to remove integrated HIV proviral DNA from infected cells. In its lead stem cell gene therapy approach, PROVIREX introduces the Brec1 gene into CD34 positive haematopoietic stem cells using a lentiviral self inactivating vector. As these cells differentiate into peripheral CD4 T cells, the resulting cells are intended to combat HIV infection. PROVIREX’s proprietary gene editing technology platform for curing HIV supports both ex vivo and in vivo therapeutic approaches. The company is preparing a first in human clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of its lead therapy. PROVIREX has also established S3 certified cleanrooms in Hamburg for the manufacture of advanced therapy medicinal products, including CAR T cell products.
