As an undersea cable industry veteran that acquired both cable supplier and cable owner experience spanning more than three decades, with involvement in over 20 different submarine fiber optic cable projects, Mr. Crawford has developed comprehensive expertise across all facets of submarine cable network dynamics–from initial design and planning to engineering, permitting, construction, operations, maintenance, repair, and retirement. Mr. Crawford's professional journey included pivotal management and executive leadership roles held at AT&T Submarine Systems (now SubCom), AT&T Communications, Pacific Gateway Exchange, and New World Network (now Liberty Networks) prior to co-founding his consultancy Telequity Group where he continues to serve as an independent professional consultant leading teams responsible for the network, utility, and technology infrastructure of clients like AT&T, Digicel, National Grid, PSEG, Terremark, UNIFI Communications, WIS Telecom, ZT Systems, and others. Before specializing in submarine cables, Mr. Crawford earned his Bachelor's of Science in Engineering degree, with a Marine Systems Engineering major and Nuclear Engineering minor, from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York, graduating with (Cum Laude) honors in the top 15% of his class. While installing submarine cable systems worldwide, he earned his MBA degree from the University of Phoenix. Mr. Crawford has been certified as VoIP Telephone System Installer, and by the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional. He is an Eagle Scout, an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) in New Jersey, an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in New York, an EPA-certified (Section 608) Universal HVAC technician, an Open Water (PADI-certified) Diver, and he was once the Most Valuable Player for taking 2nd place at the U.S. National Collegiate Pistol Shooting Championship. He currently holds an active United States Coast Guard (USCG) Merchant Mariner Credential (USCG 1st Assistant Engineer Officer's License), he advanced to the rank of Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) in the United States Naval Reserve (USNR) before being honorably discharged, and he speaks Japanese almost as well as English from previously residing in Japan.
