Ioan Stefanovici is a Principal Researcher in the Future AI Infrastructure team at Microsoft Research Cambridge. His research focuses on inventing the future infrastructure for AI systems, with a particular interest in novel and disruptive memory and storage technologies.
Previously, Ioan spent over eight years working on Project Silica, developing the first archival storage technology designed and built from the ground up for the cloud. This used femtosecond lasers to store data in glass, polarisation microscopy & machine learning techniques to read it back, and a custom-designed robotic library system to enable autonomous data centre operation.
Ioan received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto in 2016.
