Richard is Head of Projects at Athebio, driving active projects with the ultra-stable Athebody® DARPin and developing new partnerships. Richard has over 15 years industry experience in protein engineering of biologics, in both biotech (Covagen, ImmunOs) and big pharma (Johnson & Johnson, Hengrui), focused on therapeutic development of antibodies, alternative scaffolds and multi-specific formats. Richard received his PhD from the University of Nottingham, where he combined molecular microbiology and nanotechnology to develop self-assembling protein structures.
Athebody® DARPins are engineered binding proteins, with unique properties which differentiate from antibody-based formats for targeting therapies. This modality is small and ultra-stable, with unparallelled specificity to minimize off-target effects and enhance therapeutic outcomes. By combining with established delivery platforms, such as LNP and AAV, we can achieve precise targeting of specific cell populations, enabling RNA/DNA-based therapy. This talk will explore case studies, including our work enabling next generation in vivo CAR-T therapies in the autoimmune disease area.
