Nicola obtained her Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology at the University of Nottingham, then worked in industry on high-throughput cloning and validation of therapeutic cancer antigens for Oxford Glycosciences and subsequently Celltech R&D. She then spent 17 years at the University of Oxford, building and leading the Biotechnology Group at the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) and more recently, as an Associate Professor, and Head of the Protein Production Small Research Facility (SRF) in the Centre for Medicines Discovery (CMD). She returned to industry as Director of the Enzymology and Protein Engineering Team at Exact Sciences Innovation in Oxford from 2021-2023, producing proteins for cancer diagnostics research. She is now a Professorial Research Fellow in Protein Sciences and COO of Protein Sciences for the SGC based at UCL in London.
