Dr. Amrik Mahal currently serves as the Global Head of Information Technology for Research at AstraZeneca. In this capacity, he is responsible for shaping the IT strategy, collaborating with R&D senior leaders, and overseeing the delivery of all IT projects, services, and capabilities. He is presently on secondment in Gothenburg, where he additionally holds the role of Head of IT - Sweden and is an integral part of the Site Leadership Team and the AZ Bioventure Incubation Hub. Amrik stands at the crossroads of life sciences and technology, dedicated to addressing the unmet medical needs of patients. He has a wealth of experience in constructing and leading diverse, engaged teams that bolster pharmaceutical R&D efforts. His career spans multiple years across pharmaceutical research at firms including Glaxo Wellcome, Oxford Asymmetry, and Evotec, along with an academic career in the life sciences. An accomplished scientist and technologist, Amrik demonstrates a broad range of experience. He has consistently made significant contributions to, managed, and led high-performing teams, showcasing a proven track record in identifying and delivering strategic initiatives, as well as scaling innovation. Respected thought leader and speaker at national and international conferences and is a board member of the Pharmaceutical R&D Information Systems Management Executive (PRISME) Forum the de facto R&D IT leadership group of the global biopharmaceutical industry.
