For over 15 years, Ralph Wagner has led Axinom’s mission to transform aircraft into intelligent, connected environments. As CEO, he has driven innovation at the intersection of media and mobility, guiding Axinom through a series of industry firsts: the first Hollywood studio-approved DRM for personal devices (2011), the first wireless IFE deployment (2013), the first wireless seat-back IFE system (2018), the first containerized edge node for onboard software (2021), and the first cloud-only IFE rollout (2025). In today’s landscape of GEO and LEO satellite connectivity onboard aircraft, Ralph and his teams excel at tailoring software solutions to each airline’s unique setup – both in the cloud and on board. Drawing from his deep experience in cloud-based OTT streaming services, Ralph brings a strong understanding of scalability and performance to the aviation space. He has been one of the industry’s key advocates for cloud-based architectures, helping airlines fully leverage modern connectivity to significantly expand and refine their offerings. With Axinom’s On-Board Cloud, Ralph has introduced a secure, autonomous edge node that complements satellite connectivity. This node manages data traffic by caching high-demand content locally and scheduling lower-priority transfers during off-peak windows – preserving bandwidth for essential operations such as crew tools, IoT systems, and emerging inflight retail and loyalty services. Under Ralph’s leadership, Axinom is enabling airlines to dynamically shift microservices between edge and cloud, ensuring a smooth and scalable passenger experience and operational efficiency – turning connectivity from a cost center into a driver of growth.
