After completing secondary school, Philip began his career by undertaking the Officer Training Program at the Royal Netherlands Navy in Den Helder. He subsequently earned a Master of Science degree in Navigation Technology from the University of Nottingham. During his service in the Royal Navy, Philip held several key positions, including Watch Officer, Navigation Officer, Head of Operational Services, and Executive Officer of the Submarine Group, before transitioning to the aviation sector.
In the early years of his aviation career, Philip took on both operational and leadership roles. He initially served as Airside Operations Manager, where he held full operational responsibility for the 24/7 airside processes. Later, as Manager Airside Support, he was responsible for safety during airside operations and ensured airport capacity and security during adverse weather conditions such as ice and snow. He led his team in the execution, management, and maintenance of these critical operations and associated vehicles.
Building on his extensive knowledge of airport operations, Philip transitioned into the construction and infrastructure domain at Schiphol Airport. As Manager of Projects, he was accountable for integrated portfolio management and the successful delivery of major infrastructure and renovation projects.
Philip’s next career milestone was at Lelystad Airport, where he served as Director of Operations. In this role, he spearheaded the establishment and development of the operations, asset management, IT, and projects departments. His leadership was instrumental in shaping Lelystad Airport’s physical growth—including runway extensions—and in fostering a new organizational structure and culture within this young and dynamic airport.
Since October 2022, Philip has held the position of Director of Security at Schiphol Group. He oversees all facets of security operations, policy, compliance, innovation, management, projects, capacity, corporate investigations, and public-private as well as international collaborations.
Philip lives in Bergen, North Holland, with his wife Mariëlle and their three children. Born on March 18, 1976, he brings over two decades of leadership experience spanning military and aviation sectors, consistently driving operational excellence and strategic growth.
