Portia Heynes, Group Learning and Development, Sun International



Portia Heynes is the head of Group Learning & Development at Sun International responsible for developing individuals for Gaming and Hospitality.

She was previously the Head of the Vodacom Academy, South Africa where she was responsible for Learning & Development across 11 000 retail stores and Call Centres supporting over 36 000 employees. 

She holds a BCom and Executive MBA (UCT Graduate School of business) applying systems thinking to understand employability challenges and currently working on her PhD.

Portia has worked in various industries across multiple disciplines from Telecommunications, Financial Services, BPO, Agriculture, Utilities, and Consulting (Strategy & People).

Having worked for both Global and “Best Companies to work for” it has provided her with valuable insight into how individuals and business can work synergistically to exceed levels of performance by understanding the dynamic inter-relationship between employees and the Organisation.

Her passion for “unlocking potential in individuals and business”, which started in 2002, led to the successful development of Leadership and Management interventions,  adopting systemic and “learning-by-doing” practices – fast tracking  new and existing  individuals into organisations.

She thrives on complexity and has a sound track record in developing systemic, sustainable business and learning strategies with solutions that have been acknowledged as best practices in Learning & Development both globally and locally.
