Jess is a researcher, a speech and language pathologist, and has lived experiences of autism and ADHD. She is the co-founder of Next Level Collaboration, and is proudly the first openly neurodivergent female CEO of a social enterprise emerging from the University of Melbourne. As a researcher, Jess specialises in social capacity building programs for children and young adults with social-emotional differences through digital games-based learning.
Gaming is a powerful tool for social learning, but educators and allied health professionals want to know how they can create the optimal conditions for learning. This presentation introduces a program that combines video modelling and video review with the supported play of cooperative video games to help our students develop essential collaborative skills. Sharing insights from their research and professional practice, Dr Matthew Harrison and Jess Rowlings detail practical structures and strategies to run engaging and effective sessions for all students. Importantly, this program is neurodiverse-positive and celebrates the differences of autism, ADHD and other neurological conditions.
