David Margendorff leads a fintech startup called PawnHero, the 1st Online Pawnshop in Southeast Asia. PawnHero won e27's title "Most Promising Startup 2015 in Asia" at Echelon.
In emerging markets countries like the Philippines only 2 out of 10 people have a bank account and less than 5% have a credit card. Most citizens don’t have access to affordable credit. Their only option is to borrow from pawnshops who charge extremely high-interest rates.
PawnHero solves the problem by putting a pawnshop in everybody's pocket. They provide an easy, fair and convenient way of overcoming short-term cash needs. This is a completely new way of doing business in the industry, truly disruptive, created by genuine visionaries.
David has international academic experience from universities in London, Buenos Aires, Barcelona and the US. Previously he launched Malaysia's leading financial comparison website and lead the expansion in the Philippines. CompareAsiaGroup is now the largest financial comparison website in Asia.
David worked previously for a private equity and fund advisory firm in Switzerland, where he was directly engaged in the fund raising as well as in the reviewing, evaluating and structuring of potential investment opportunities.
