Leah Wright is a dedicated Emergency and Critical Care Specialist at the Veterinary Referral Hospital, with a passion for providing exceptional care to animals in need. After graduating from the University of Melbourne in 2009, she began her career as a mixed practice veterinarian in the town of Katherine, Northern Territory, where she travelled to remote indigenous communities to undertake community dog programs. Leah left the N.T. in 2011, and began working in a busy small animal practice in Ballarat. In 2013 Leah’s love for learning lead her to an internship at the University of Sydney, during which she achieved Membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Medicine. Leah took a break from clinical work to undertake 10 months of volunteer work in Malaysian Borneo in 2015 helping to develop a successful trap-neuter-release program. After returning from Borneo, Leah joined the Animal Emergency Centre, Hallam as a senior emergency veterinarian. In 2017 she commenced a residency in Emergency and Critical Care including externships at U.C. Davis and North Carolina State University, and a 3-month clinical placement at Animal Referral Hospital, Homebush. Leah has published clinical research on canine spontaneous haemoperitoneum, copperhead snake envenomation and iron EDTA toxicosis. In 2022 Leah achieved Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Veterinary Emergency Medicine and Critical Care (FANZCVS VEMCC). Leah’s clinical interests include endocrine emergencies, sepsis and mechanical ventilation. Leah is also a triathlete and enjoys open water swimming and SCUBA diving, and in the winter months you will find her on the soccer field. She lives with her Fiancé Tim, their Dalmatian Clover, and cat Tully.
