Sophie's Legacy is an Australian charity established in memory of Dr Sophie Putland, a Melbourne veterinarian who died by suicide in 2021 at the age of 33. Founded by her family, Sophie's Legacy works to build a safer, healthier and more sustainable future for the veterinary profession — addressing the disproportionately high rates of mental health distress and suicide among veterinary professionals through advocacy for workplace reform, direct support for veterinary teams, and public awareness campaigns that foster greater understanding and compassion toward the people who care for our animals.
