Myrna M. Velasco is a multi-hyphenated and award-winning Business Journalist and an author of specialized energy books. She writes as Business Journalist and Columnist for the Manila Bulletin and has also contributed articles to Forbes Philippines Magazine and Natural Gas World, a North American publication focusing on the global oil and gas industry.
She is also currently hosting an energy-themed TV show entitled ‘Power Shift’, a primetime program that tackles local and global developments in the energy sector.
Among the awards conferred her are the ASEAN-wide Green Technology Journalism Awards in Singapore; Henry Ford Journalism Awards (Best Feature Story); and Citibank Pan Pacific Journalism Awards (Philippines). She authored books on energy: “Surviving A Power Crisis: The Philippine Experience”; and the “Energy Guidebook For the Philippine Media”; and has co-authored a book chapter on: “Crafting Energy Policies With the Next Generation in Mind”; jointly published by the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) and the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communications.
She’s also a constant speaker in various energy and tech-related conferences in the Philippines as well as in other Asian countries.
She has done policy research works for various international institutions, including the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the International Finance Corporation (IFC); United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and has been doing consultancy works on assessments of policies, risk issues and other investment concerns within the Asian region, as well as the US and European markets. She’s currently working on a book project relating to the energy sector of the Philippines and other key markets in the world.
