Eric Ma, PhD, is a distinguished executive and chief engineer with a 15-year track record in the renewable energy sector. A prolific innovator, Dr. Ma holds five U.S. patents and has authored over 20 academic papers in Mechanical Engineering. Beyond his technical prowess, he possesses deep expertise in project development, structured finance, and complex deal-making. Throughout his career, Dr. Ma has spearheaded the development, financing, and operation of over a dozen solar transactions, totaling nearly 2 GW of capacity. As the founder and President of UPower Energy, an Austin-based full-capacity service provider, he leads the charge in deploying distributed sustainable energy projects. Under his leadership, UPower leverages cutting-edge innovations—from grid digitalization to transactive aggregation—to deliver energy solutions that prioritize affordability, sustainability, and accessibility. Prior to founding UPower, Dr. Ma held several executive roles where he was responsible for overarching business strategy and organizational growth.
