George Makrides is Head of the Renewable Energy Sources and Grid Integration Research Unit at the PHAETHON Centre of Excellence, University of Cyprus. He has authored more than 250 publications in international journals and conference proceedings in the energy field and has participated in numerous national and European research projects. His research focuses on renewable energy systems and their integration into modern power grids, including photovoltaics, grid integration of variable renewable energy sources, smart grids, battery energy storage systems, electric mobility, energy digitalisation, and data-driven analytics. His work has received several international paper awards and innovation prizes from organisations including ETIP-PV, the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation, and the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber. Lastly, he has coordinated and participated in European, and industrial research projects, securing more than €3 million in research funding for the University of Cyprus.
