Dr José-Luis Bobes-Hernández is a renewable energy finance specialist with over 28 years of demonstrated achievements in structuring solar, storage, and sustainable infrastructure financing across Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia. His expertise centres on financial structuring, risk mitigation, and transaction advisory for utility-scale solar, distributed generation, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
His South African experience includes serving as Transaction Advisor for the AFD TFSC Programme (2023-2027). He also managed the €50 million Green Energy Efficiency Fund (GEEF) with South Africa's Industrial Development Corporation (2011-2013), developing a pipeline and providing transaction support for industrial-sector energy-efficiency and renewable-energy projects. His work with AUDA-NEPAD's Infrastructure Support Mechanism involved transaction advisory for a pipeline exceeding $160 billion, including renewable energy projects across 55 African countries.
Dr Bobes has served as transaction advisor for over 200 renewable energy and infrastructure transactions across Africa, working with leading development finance institutions including USAID, EBRD, African Development Bank, EIB, World Bank/IFC, and AFD.
Dr Bobes is Managing Partner of Senatla Sustainable Infrastructure Fund, targeting investments in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure across Africa. He serves on the Advisory Board of Enfinergy, a leading solar storage management company specialising in intelligent energy management solutions.
He holds a PhD in Development Finance from Stellenbosch University (South Africa), an MBA from University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and an MSc in Agriculture Engineering from Polytechnic University of Madrid (Spain). Dr Bobes is fluent in English, Spanish, French, and German, with basic knowledge of Arabic, Portuguese, and Russian.
