With a US$2.9 billion e-commerce market expected to grow at an annual rate of 15.9% through until at least 2021, a new national electronic payment system with 18 million users already and a recovering retail sector with 2.6% annual growth, Thailand is an exciting example of the growth potential for commerce in Southeast Asia.
Nevertheless, there remain a series of challenges facing future growth which need to be addressed in order for Thailand to reach its full digital potential. From major groundwork issues like limited broadband speed and a lack of low-cost e-commerce logistics infrastructure, through to adoption challenges like the 5% credit card penetration rate, there is a real need for a platform through which major stakeholders can meet, partner and address these key issues.
