I spent almost 20 years in the Home Office working in a variety of operational roles, namely Customs, Immigration, Intelligence, Operational Training, Document Examination and, finally, in Learning and Development. I have previously worked at both Heathrow and Bristol Airports, and I have deployed overseas to deliver identity document security training and border management capacity building in Jamaica, Jordan (twice), Pakistan and Poland (twice). In 2022 I became an EU-qualified Security Sector Reform Advisor, and I was also a corporate member of the Biometrics Institute. I am an experienced Border Management and Identity professional with a particular interest in identity document security, border systems technology, strengthening border controls and securing identity systems against a variety of threats. In my last post in the Home Office, I focused on supporting the security of the UK’s national identity system by delivering professional intelligence and investigation training to Counter Fraud staff in His Majesty's Passport Office and the General Register Office. I am now working in a Technology Enhanced Learning role for another UK Government Department and am attending IDW 25 in a private capacity, where I hope to offer some lessons and share some thoughts about the importance of secure identity documents and identity systems in the contemporary Human Security environment. My views remain my own.
